Smt. Samarpita Bajpai

Samarpita started her dance training at the tender age of seven. She specialized in Bharatnatyam under the tutelage of Guru Smt. Thankamani Kutty of Calcutta Kalamandalam. After her Bharatnatyam Arangetram at 16,she went on to train in Mohiniattam under the same Guru for the next 3 years. Post Arangetram, Samarpita became a Bharatnatyam instructor at Calcutta Kalamandalam and a company dancer. She toured many cities in India and performed for Calcutta Doordarshan too. It was a chance encounter with Kuchipudi soon after, that completely enamored her and finally defined her dance career. She trained very briefly under Gurus, Sri. M.C. Vedantakrishna and Smt. Smita Shastri, before finally transitioning to Guru, Padma Bhushan Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam’s bani, or style, under the able tutelage of Gurus, Padmasri Jayarama Rao and Smt. Vanasree Rao. Samarpita migrated to USA in the year 2002 and toured the country extensively as a solo Bharatnatyam/Kuchipudi dancer till 2011. She established Gurukul Academy in 2009 and the Gurukul Dance Company in 2012. Thereafter she toured multiple US cities with her dance company, presenting highly acclaimed productions. Samarpita was also an empaneled roster artist of the Kansas Arts Commission from 2003-2011. She has also been a teaching artist with Kansas City Young Audience since 2004, contributing immensely in creating awareness about East Indian Classical Dances among mainstream audience in the Kansas-Missouri areas. Samarpita also conducted Kuchipudi Master Classes in KU (Lawrence) and UMKC, multiple times, on invitation. Samarpita has also mastered various folk dances of India and worked with grassroots artists directly.

Sri Jaikishore Mosalikanti

Internationally acclaimed dancer/teacher/choreographer, Guru Jaikishore Mosalikanti visits Gurukul Academy every year since 2016, to conduct an annual intensive workshop with students. He is also mentoring Smt. Samarpita Bajpai. Sri Mosalikanti is one of the foremost students of Guru, Padma Bhushan Dr.Vempati Chinna Satyam, earning a reputation as a formidable Kuchipudi exponent in India, USA and Europe. Sri Mosalikanti’s uncompromising insistence on proper technique and form, makes him one of the most sought after Kuchipudi Guru worldwide. A prolific and original choreographer, he has been recognized by scholars, critics and connoisseurs of art, both for his choreographic and performance skills. He has also been endowed with numerous awards, namely, Natya Visharada by the Kuchipudi Art Academy, Yuva Kala Vipanchee by Vipanchee Trust headed by Padma Vibhushan Dr. M Bala Murali Krishna and the prestigious Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar by Sangeet Natak Academy, New Delhi. He and his wife, Smt. Padmavani Mosalikanti are ‘A’ Grade Artists of Doordarshan Chennai and run their own Kuchipudi institute, Shivamohanam, in Chennai.
